Differences between registry, registrar and registrant

There are three parties involved when you want to register a domain – the registry, registrar and registrant

Registry

A domain name registry is the organization that manages top-level domain names. They are creating domain name extensions, setting the rules for that domain name, and working with registrars to sell domain names to the public.

Registrar

The registrar is the so-called middleman. It is the authorized organization that registers a domain with a registry, on behalf of the registrant.

Registrant

A registrant is the person, organization, or company who registers a domain name. Registrants can manage their domain name’s settings through their registrar. When changes are made to the domain, the registrar will send the information to the registry to be updated and saved in the registry’s database. Learn more about the domains with us.
